February 2022 Athlete of the Month

Eliza Wingfield

Coach’s Thoughts: It has been so fun watching Eliza progress over the last 6 months. She comes to class with a smile on her face and the determination to get better every single day. Even when the workouts are really tough and everyone is struggling, I can count on Eliza to look up give a quick smile and then put her head down and get back to work. I truly hope she realizes how strong she really is and how much we have enjoyed her being part of the Core City family. I look forward to watching her progress!

  1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I started going to CrossFit in July 2021 because a friend of mine said she was doing the onramp class to join CrossFit and that I should do it with her. Also, my sister, Susannah, has been doing CrossFit for years, so I was already familiar with it.

  2. Favorite Movement?

I like dumbbell snatches and, generally, anything we do with the barbell.

  3. What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?

CrossFit is not as intimidating as it seems at first because no matter your skill level, when you start the coaches will meet you where you're at. CrossFit is for everyone! My sister and I talked our retired parents into trying out their local CrossFit for the first time recently and (I think) they like it.

  4. Favorite thing about CCF?

People are very welcoming and encouraging. I don't think I could have made as much progress as I have over the last six months without the encouragement of the people around me.

  5. What do you do when you’re not at CCF (job, hobbies, other fitness, etc)?

I work in HR for a small Detroit based company. I love to bake and hang out with my nieces and nephews when I get the chance. I also spend a lot of my free time wondering when the next season of Stranger Things will come out.

  6. What is your next big fitness goal?

My next goal is to make myself start doing box jumps, but I also have dreams of being able to do a pullup one day.
