October 2020 Athlete of the Month

Sheridan Skopczynski

Please join us in congratulating Sheridan Skopczynski on being named CCF's October Athlete of the Month! Keep reading to learn a little more about Sheridan!

Coach’s Thoughts: Sheridan was one of our very first members at Core City Fitness starting with our Saturday workouts before we were even open!  She has been so consistent since she started and eager to learn. Watching her grow as an athlete has been one of the more rewarding experiences since opening the gym! She is fearless when it comes to trying new skills and pushing herself on heavier weights. She’s one of the happiest people we’ve ever met and it’s always a joy to have her in class. We CANNOT WAIT to see you get that first pull up!!

  1. How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I started CrossFit over the summer to try something new and get my life together post-quarantine. It was much harder than I thought and I was definitely humbled, but immediately sold on it. I’m about 3 months in and loving it!

  2. Favorite Movement?

I like anything I find a little scary such as box jumps and anything with a barbell. It gets the blood pumping and gives me an adrenaline rush I don’t find in my daily life.

  3. What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?

Just try it! It truly caters to people of all fitness levels and abilities. It can be intimidating, but once you get going, you’ll regret waiting. Everyone is very welcoming and helpful, so you’ll be up to speed in no time!

  4. Favorite thing about CCF?

Definitely the community! I had heard that one of the benefits of CrossFit was the community, but didn’t put that much stock into it and it wasn’t an important aspect to me personally. After joining CCF, I truly get it and it has been my favorite part of the experience. All of the members have different backgrounds, fitness levels, jobs, etc but come together to encourage/push each other everyday. The coaches genuinely care about seeing you succeed, and go way beyond the one hour class to help you reach your goals, whatever they may be.

  5. What do you do when you’re not at CCF (job, hobbies, other fitness, etc)?

I work in research and development which leaves me pretty sedentary for my day job, so I try to stay active when not at work. I’ll often spend my free time walking/running around Detroit, hanging out with my cats, and probably petting your dogs.

  6. What is your next big fitness goal?

Do a pull up or die trying!!!
