December 2020 Athlete of the Month
Coach’s Thoughts: Kaitlyn was a founding member of Core City Fitness and an avid supporter since its opening. She is a steadfast member of the 5:30am workout crew. Kaitlyn has been doing Crossfit for a while and is supportive of other members offering cues when needed and encouraging words. During her time at CCF, Kaitlyn has embodied humbleness by listening to coaches and taking their advice. Kaitlyn is hungry to learn and pushes herself to be a little bit better everyday. She provided a little happiness too this holiday season by furnishing the gym with festive lights and a little happy tree. Kaitlyn doesn’t just embrace CCF as her community but also as her CCF family! Thank you Kaitlyn for being a CCF advocate and family member!
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
2012 (GASP) - a friend of mine started, so I looked for a gym near me, and the rest is history.
Favorite Movement?
I cannot simply pick just one: DUs, box jumps, power cleans (unpopular opinion, I also love running)
What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?
Rip the bandaid off, and just start! Fun fact, I signed the waiver and went home on my 1st day, because I was intimidated. I worked out the next day, and am still going strong 8 years later. The lifestyle you build at CrossFit flows into other areas of your life - nutrition, health, mindset, community, etc., and we have a lot of fun together, too.
Favorite thing about CCF?
Our close knit, supportive group and the OG-CrossFit feel. Our gym is one of the best things that came out of this crazy year.
What do you do when you’re not at CCF (job, hobbies, other fitness, etc)?
I'm a corporate attorney by day, avid competitive golfer by night. I also coach girls' hoops during the winter, and many of you know my very energetic Border Collie, Junah, who always keeps me busy. Lastly, you can find me with my 5:30am fitness squad, which leads me to my final hobby - drinking coffee from all my favorite local Detroit spots.
What is your next big fitness goal?
I'm currently on a mission to build back up to my old OLY lifting numbers and find my gymnastics skills that went missing during this pandemic. I also have some very big golf-related goals for 2021. Oh, and to throwdown with CCF during the CrossFit Open in March.
