July 2022 Athlete of the Month
Coach’s Thoughts:
Haley has definitely embraced the “happy” in our humble, hungry, happy vision for our members. She always arrives in the morning with a positive attitude and a smile. When the clock starts, though, Haley’s game face goes “hungry” as she attacks every workout with hard effort. She is “humble” in that she is very receptive to feedback and is always lending encouragement and even does extra reps to those that are still finishing workouts. We are glad that Haley chose to be part of our Core City Fitness community!
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I started CrossFit back in August of 2020 -- it was the only gym in my area having classes. They had the space and ability to offer classes with the proper social distancing standards and outdoor workouts.
Favorite Movement?
Anything that involves yelling “LIGHTWEIGHT” because it doesn’t count otherwise. But I’ll get excited when there’s push press and running involved.
What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?
Start. Everyone has been a beginner. CrossFit, at its core, is about functional fitness, meaning, you will find the movements we do at the gym, in our everyday routine. This helps sustain a long and healthy life!
Favorite thing about CCF?
I could write a short story about why I love Core City Fitness. On my first day, I was unbelievably nervous. The other members accepted me with open arms. The programming is smart and thought out, the coaches are attentive and dedicated. I have had multiple personal records, and learned new movements and correct standards since joining! Woo!
Joining Core City has made me a better athlete. I thrive on trying to keep up with other members. We all push each other to be better than the day before. The community really makes this place home and it is consistently the best part of my day.
It means a lot to see the gym giving back to the community of Detroit -- CCF offers a SoberWOD and a CrossFit kids’ program!
What do you do when you’re not at CCF (job, hobbies, other fitness, etc)?
Currently an admissions counselor at the University of Detroit Mercy. In addition to my love for CrossFit -- I love running and signing up for races with my mom, cooking with my soul sister Taylor, pool siding with my bestie Kelsey, and trying new activities like rock climbing and wakeboarding!
What is your next big fitness goal?
Chest to bar and butterfly pull-ups! Someday a muscle-up. Stay tuned
