June 2022 Athlete of the Month
Coach’s Thoughts:
As a member and athlete, Mike embodies the core values at CCF. He is one of the silent but deadly types when it comes to fitness. Everyday Mike seeks out a way to improve by challenging himself either with loading or modifying the technical movements of CrossFit. He is an ideal member and athlete because he is super coachable and has a humbling attitude. Mike is a great community member at CCF and has contention to be the CCF Pizza Game Warm-Up Champion!
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I originally started CrossFit when I returned from Basic Training. After 5 months away for Basic/Job Training, CrossFit seemed like the best way to continue to improve my physical fitness. I started CrossFit in 2014 and was pretty dedicated until about 2017, then I really re-engaged with CrossFit at Core City in the beginning of this year.
Favorite Movement?
Power Cleans or running
What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?
CrossFit can be intimidating from the outside looking in, but everyone in the gym had their first day working out - no one is going to be an expert on their first day, and athletes who have been training for years still have weaknesses.
Favorite thing about CCF?
The community is great. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, but it is also an environment that encourages athletes to continually improve.
What do you do when you’re not at CCF (job, hobbies, other fitness, etc)?
I am a project leader for a freight forwarder in Romulus, but outside of work and CCF I like to hunt, golf, hike - pretty much spend time outside or hang out with friends.
What is your next big fitness goal?
My next big fitness goal is to improve my gymnastics - specifically muscle ups.
