September 2021 Athlete of the Month
Coach’s Thoughts: I remember when I met Lisa. It was during CrossFit Open workout 19.3 and it had overhead walking lunges. I was in the lane next to her which was a terrible position because all I remember was her taking one step for every two of mine. I could not keep up - she was determined. I was unaware at that time that one day we would have the opportunity together with some other great people to foster a fitness community in the heart of Detroit. I never met someone so hard working and determined to be her best self every time she walked into the gym. Now with the responsibility of being a future mama, her perseverance and work ethic is unshaken at Core City Fitness. It’s amazing and our Coaches and Community recognize the commitment and the deserving accolade of October Athlete of the Month.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Since 2015. My husband, my brother and multiple other people want to take credit for suggesting crossfit, but I had always been into fitness and finally decided to try it.
Favorite Movement?
Wall balls
What advice would you give to someone who is hesitant to start CrossFit?
Don’t do it! Unless you want to get in the best shape of your life, form lifelong friendships and gain the ability to do things you’ve never done before.
Favorite thing about CCF?
The people! I’ve been able to meet so many awesome people and form great friendships that I don’t think would have happened if we didn’t open this gym...it feels like a second home and I’m so thankful for that everyday. During this pregnancy, my second favorite thing is how close CCF is to Anzac cookies at Astro.
What do you do when you’re not at CCF (job, hobbies, other fitness, etc)?
I work on the operations team at Techstars, we invest in and support entrepreneurs all over the world. For fitness outside of the gym I love to go for trail runs with my little buddy, Oliver. When I’m not working or at CCF I am usually reading, binging TV or trying to convince my husband that we need to do another house project (I’m taking light fixture and wallpaper suggestions).
